Application Process
The first step is to submit the completed application directly to Wharton Executive Education at the address indicated below.
Next, you must forward the following items:
- Your résumé.
Please make the document sufficiently specific so as to allow us to
ascertain your career progression and accomplishments, but it should
not exceed four pages.
- Your statement of purpose. The statement
should not exceed 1000 words and should focus on the factors that have
led you to apply to the University of Pennsylvania Executive Program
in Work-Based Learning Leadership and what you hope to gain from
its completion.
You should arrange to have the following forwarded to Wharton Executive Education at the address indicated below. These should be forwarded directly from the source.
- Your official academic transcripts from
any institution in which you have been enrolled in a degree program.
- A letter of nomination endorsing your
candidacy for this program. This letter should come from the CEO or
senior Human Resources executive in your organization. The letter should
attest to your readiness to assume the leadership role for learning
and development in your organization. If you already possess that role,
the letter should describe your approach to the role and outline what
you would bring to this program.
- A letter of recommendation from an
individual who can speak to your ability to complete the program and
your career potential. Please have this person enclose the Recommendation
Form with the letter.
- Your standardized test scores.
The GRE is not required for admission to the program. However, the admissions
committee reserves the right to request your GRE scores as additional
admissions criteria. You may elect to submit scores from the exam if
you have taken it within the past five years. If you submit GRE scores,
they will be considered as part of your application. International applicants
must take either the TOEFL or IELTS exams. The Penn GSE institutional
reporting code for the GRE and TOEFL test scores is 2943.
In addition, students seeking certification need to secure approval from their employer to use their place of employment for the field experience.
There is no application fee for the program. If you accept our offer of admission, there will be a $1,000 deposit required to hold your place in the class.
Applications for the Fall 2009 course block are due February
15, 2009.

Financial Aid
The University of Pennsylvania is committed to helping students meet the costs of receiving an education at the University of Pennsylvania. The Executive Program in Work-Based Learning Leadership does not offer fellowships at this time but instead encourages students to pay for the program through a combination of federal and university-sponsored student loan programs, private scholarship programs, employer support, university payment plans, and personal finances.
FEDERAL LOAN PROGRAMS
Stafford Loans (formerly Guaranteed Student Loans) are offered to students by banks, credit unions, the University of Pennsylvania, and other participating lenders. The loan is guaranteed by the Federal Government, which pays the interest for students who are financially eligible during the grace period following enrollment and during any authorized deferment. Students must be enrolled at least half-time and show satisfactory progress in a program leading to a degree or certificate. Need is determined by the information supplied on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application. The maximum subsidized loan per year is $8,500. A student may borrow up to $20,500 total, subsidized and unsubsidized, per academic year.
Perkins Loans (formerly National Direct Student Loans) are offered to financially eligible students through the University. This loan is guaranteed by the Federal Government, which pays interest while the student is enrolled, during the grace period following enrollment, and during any authorized deferment. Students must be enrolled at least half-time. Need is determined by information supplied on the FAFSA application. A maximum amount of $6,000 may be borrowed each year.
ADDITIONAL LOAN PROGRAMS
The Penn/CitiAssist Loan Program is the lowest-cost alternative loan being offered to our students. Students who are enrolled at least half-time in a graduate degree program and who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents may borrow up to the cost of attendance per year, minus other financial assistance. Interest rates and origination fees are especially low for a nonfederal loan. Since the loan is guaranteed by Penn, approval is likely, unless the student has a negative credit record.
The Penn Plan also makes a revolving credit line available to students to pay for educational expenses. The line of credit features a variable annual percentage rate and variable monthly payments. Payments begin one month after the disbursement of funds.
Payment plans are also available.
