- Governing the Corporation: Enhancing the Effectiveness of the Board
In January 2006, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) began to enforce the new Clause 49, laying down tighter qualification criteria for independent directors in India. Worldwide, corporate governance issues have recently generated intense debate and discussion. In India, tighter restrictions and an aging pool of independent directors will provide greater opportunities for board appointments, but prior preparation for the board membership role is needed. Participants will include current and potential corporate board members of SEBI-listed companies. Executives from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries will also find the content relevant, as many of the topics discussed in this program will have implications beyond the borders of India.
