The Last Word
Be Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise

While few of us may heed the advice of Ben Franklin to change our sleeping patterns — "early to bed and early to rise" — we can all aspire to the goal he set of becoming "healthy, wealthy, and wise." And this applies as much to organizations as to individuals.

Health is both financial and cultural — by looking both to the bottom line and to creating organizations that can drive future innovations. Wisdom is not merely the acquisition of knowledge. It is not swimming through the oceans of data and words and bytes that couldn’t have been imagined in Franklin’s time of the hand printing press. It is being able to step back and see the big picture, to change the way you approach a problem, or recognize a new potential threat or opportunity.

The Wharton School, at the university founded by Benjamin Franklin, is devoted to creating the combination of fresh perspectives and challenges to elicit wisdom. We continue to challenge ourselves to recognize new wisdom and create innovative approaches, such as our Fellows program, to share with executives.

And this wisdom and health are what drive the creation of wealth.
