The pharmaceuticals
industry faces the complex challenges of rapidly advancing technology,
shifting regulations, and intense competition. Wharton has extensive experience
in researching the industry and educating its leaders. In this issue,
with the help of our faculty, we explore some of the complex challenges

Building: Conceiving, Planning, and Executing Corporate Ventures:
The ability to create and grow a portfolio of new business ventures
can produce strong financial growth and is essential in today's market.
Led by the founder of Wharton's Advanced Management Program, Ian MacMillan,
this class is structured as a workshop in which participants bring and
develop a business development plan during the week. Faculty will provide
feedback and offer a variety of approaches based on years of research
in successful corporate ventures. Optional followup evaluation sessions
will be available.
April 13– 18, 2003 (Philadelphia)
- Managing
People: Power Through Influence: During this 3-day class, you will
practice methods designed to strengthen your ability to manage people
and learn new ways of thinking about your relationships with the people
you manage. Selected session topics include managing people's multiple
perspectives, power and politics in organizations, and human influence
in organizations.

13– 16, 2003 (Philadelphia)
- Leading
in Times of Turbulence and Change: Upper-middle to senior managers
whose organizations already have undergone corporate restructuring or
who anticipate such a change can benefit from this program, which will
give them a better understanding of the change process and methods for
helping their staff adjust to such changes.
April 27– May 2, 2003 (Philadelphia)
- Implementing
Strategy: Building the right structures and processes is essential
for any strategic plan to come to fruition. This 5-day program gives
you a multifunctional approach to strategy implementation, including
building clear and measurable incentives and learning through case studies
how different strategies create different demands on an organization.
Faculty will be available to give individual feedback on a business
plan you bring.
April 27– May 2, 2003 (Philadelphia)
