Wharton: Your Global Partner

Wharton: Your Global Partner

The trusted knowledge partner to a broad range of global clients, Wharton delivers programs for international and multinational firms located in Asia, India, Europe, and the Middle East. Our goal has been to develop long-term relationships with leading global firms, and our strength as a partner is based upon our many years of experience delivering customized programs for organizations around the world. Nearly half of our 133 custom programs in 2007 alone were delivered to international clients in locations outside of the U.S.

Faculty aligned to the needs of global clients
As a partner rather than a provider, Wharton has a deep and intimate understanding of global organizations and their unique challenges. Wharton faculty members bring an in-depth understanding of regional issues in countries around the world, and are responsive to the specific needs of global organizations. Many of our faculty members are from outside of the U.S., and their research regularly covers topics of significance to businesses on all continents. We have the most published and most cited business school faculty in the world, and our 280 standing faculty and associate faculty members act as consultants to global businesses and policymakers in local and national governments worldwide.

Wharton’s footprint across six continents
With a reach that extends around the globe, Wharton has more than 41 international custom clients, in countries that include Brazil, Barbados, Denmark, the Netherlands, Scotland, England, France, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Lebanon, Israel, Saudi Arabia, India, United Arab Emirates/Dubai, Thailand, China, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, and Australia.

An experienced staff with global capability
For more than 20 years, Wharton has successfully delivered hundreds of executive education programs at onsite locations around the world. Wharton’s custom program teams are thoroughly familiar with the complexities of program delivery across time zones and cultures. We are well versed in the customs and traditions in countries such as Australia, Brazil, China, Denmark, UAE/Dubai, France, Germany, Japan, India, and Saudi Arabia — and in many more countries across six continents. To ensure that we deliver our programs most effectively and with maximum impact, we have conducted in-depth research into the multicultural factors influencing the overall program experience and participant assimilation of content.

Global cultural awareness and expertise
With a deep awareness and sensitivity to the cultures where we deliver international programs, our staff is thoroughly familiar with regional customs and communication styles. Because of our many years of experience, we have a solid understanding of U.S. State Department and local government requirements and procedures, both for international clients coming to our campus in Philadelphia, and for our faculty and staff members traveling abroad. And because of Wharton’s worldwide scope and delivery capability, we are fully prepared to meet client needs anywhere in the world with full staff coverage.

Integrated learning technologies

Wharton’s goal to deliver “Impact through Education” is enhanced via our use of sophisticated technology platforms and a video production studio that allow us to deliver pre- and post-program content for a seamless learning experience. We blend synchronous Web 2.0 learning technologies before and after the residential classroom experience for fully integrated learning. Participants benefit from collaborative interaction prior to their residential program experience and in post-program virtual classrooms that help them integrate what they have learned once they are back on the job.

Our ability to deliver a “virtual classroom” anywhere in the world enables us to engage participants in the learning process at any distance. And our capabilities fully support remote learning, allowing us to reach clients around the globe with access otherwise limited by travel restrictions or costs.

Virtual classrooms virtually anywhere
For a seamless program experience from any location globally, Wharton’s virtual classrooms require no client installations and are easily accessible. They are fully supported with video, live chat/questions and answers, PowerPoint presentations, and application sharing. Participants can join our virtual classrooms from any location via Internet/phone, and no plug-in is required. They may also opt for audio-only participation when traveling. In addition to our virtual classrooms, Wharton’s technology allows us develop content collaboratively, and to deliver this content in multiple languages with simultaneous translation.

Immersive learning simulations
Along with the ways in which Wharton’s technology impacts how we deliver program content, it also makes an invaluable contribution to what we deliver. With technology that supports a variety of teaching methods, one of those with the most impact is our computer simulations — experienced-based simulations with open-ended outcomes that stimulate discovery and real-world problem solving. These virtual business scenarios allow participants to test and apply the concepts they learn in the classroom. They can try out their strategies in a safe, simulated environment without risking company resources.

Rich multimedia experiences
Wharton can enhance program delivery with a full-spectrum, multi-media experience that features video streaming and recording, and online recordings that are live, in real-time, or that can be accessed later, on demand. Our video conferencing is available for both large and small client groups, and we can also deliver web-based briefings and training.

Partnering with leading institutions worldwide

Wharton also has a proven track record of partnering with key educational providers to benefit our clients. The Wharton/INSEAD Alliance, for example, extends top-quality executive education across four dedicated campuses: Wharton’s U.S. campuses in Philadelphia and San Francisco; and those of INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, and Singapore. Wharton’s other key global partners include:

Wharton alumni around the world

Wharton’s 84,000 alumni live in more than 139 countries on six continents. Our annual Global Alumni Forums bring together faculty members, alumni, policymakers, and business executives to discuss current business challenges and opportunities. The forums were first established in 1993 and have been held thirteen times in Asia; ten times in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East; and eight times in Latin America. Participation has ranged from several hundred to nearly 1,000 alumni, depending on the city.

Sharing business knowledge across a global network: Knowledge@Wharton

As a force for global economic growth and social change, Wharton provides free business knowledge to a global network of more than 1.25 million subscribers via the School’s online business journal — Knowledge@Wharton. The journal embodies Wharton’s firm commitment to sharing its intellectual strength with the global business community.

The envy of other schools
Described by the The Economist as the online journal that is “the envy of every other school,” Knowledge@Wharton is produced in four language versions: Knowledge@Wharton (the original English version); Universia Knowledge@Wharton (Spanish and Portuguese); China Knowledge@Wharton (Chinese); and India Knowledge@Wharton (English). Each of the four versions offers content that is relevant to the business audience in that region. The India version, for example, includes topics of specific interest to Indian businesses — such as a recent article on mergers and acquisitions that examines the impact of the current global economic slump on acquisitions by Indian businesses.

Global breadth and depth of editorial content
The first online business journal of its kind, Knowledge@Wharton provides free access to members analyses of current business trends, interviews with industry leaders and Wharton faculty on issues impacting businesses worldwide, articles based on the latest business research, conference overviews, book reviews; and a searchable database of more than 1,500 articles and research abstracts. The editorial content covers 14 topics that range from finance and investment to health economics and business ethics.
