Indian firms are increasingly extending their reach into complex foreign markets, seeking outstanding growth opportunities. But with those opportunities come formidable challenges, including competing in a more crowded field; understanding and working with diplomatic issues; moving up the value chain from mid-level to high-end players; transitioning to become true innovators of products and services; managing a P&L, while also cultivating stakeholder relationships; and managing talent, especially mid-level leaders.

Developing a Global Strategy addresses the multiple challenges of globalization. This program will help you navigate the complexities of the global marketplace, meet the demands it places on leadership, and give you insight on how to grow through an intentional strategy rather than waiting for opportunities. Specifically, this program will explore how to generate corporate development strategies that will create growth across national borders. This four-day program is led by Wharton faculty who serve as consultants to the Indian government, multinational corporations and to international organizations such as the World Bank. As a result, they have a deep understanding of the issues facing Indian firms today.

Tuition includes lunches, breaks, and program materials, and does not include accommodations.

Through Developing a Global Strategy you will learn what it takes to operate successfully in a global business environment and expand your mindset for growth beyond your company’s current success. The four-day program first focuses on managing the inter-firm relationships that cross-border growth depends on. That includes navigating alliances and potential acquisitions with foreign partners and with networks of related firms. Then the focus shifts to the external environment, building an understanding of the role of politics and NGOs as well as managing complex stakeholder relationships.

Developing a Global Strategy Session Topics Include:

  • Corporate Strategy and Competitive Advantage in a Global Environment
  • Managing Strategic Alliances and Alliance Networks
  • Determining Acquisition Integration Strategies
  • Stakeholder Analysis
  • Corporate Diplomacy

Developing a Global Strategy is designed for general management executives in multinational firms or in firms that aspire to become multinational. Participants will gain the broader skills their role demands, with a strong emphasis on the specific challenges inherent in managing in a global or cross-border environment.

We encourage companies to send cross-functional teams to leverage the application and value of the program. Additional group benefits are available when four or more participants attend a program.

In Developing a Global Strategy, you will learn from two of Wharton’s management professors how to create powerful strategies for growth and success. Sessions will be led by:

henisz-witold WITOLD J. HENISZ, PhD
Faculty Director
Deloitte & Touche Professor of Management, in Honor of Russell E. Palmer, former Managing Partner

Dr. Witold J. Henisz's research examines the impact of political hazards on international investment strategy. He analyzes the political and economic determinants of government attempts to redistribute investor returns to the broader polity, the strategic responses by organizations to such pressure, and the determinants of the success of individual organizations in withstanding such pressure.

Professor Henisz has served as a consultant for the World Bank, The Inter-American Development Bank, The Conference Board, and Eurasia Group. He previously worked for The International Monetary Fund. He is currently a principal in the political risk management consultancy PRIMA LLC.
Saikat Chaudhuri SAIKAT CHAUDHURI, PhD
Assistant Professor of Management
The Wharton School

Professor Chaudhuri has been at Wharton since 2004, where he teaches Mergers and Acquisitions and Management of Technology. His current research focuses on understanding operational drivers of performance in innovation-targeted acquisitions, and on investigating challenges, effective management practices, and implications for firm boundaries of R&D and product development outsourcing projects.  He consults for a range of technology-based companies on acquisition and other corporate growth strategies, and provides expert witness testimony in legal cases involving technology acquisition transactions. Professor Chaudhuri has also advised the Indian government on IT-based economic development opportunities.
