Tips for Accessing PennPortal


Create a Pennkey and password

A PennKey and password are required to register for courses. By now, you should have received a letter with information about creating a PennKey. If you have not received this letter, please send an e-mail to pennkey@isc.upenn.edu or visit the PennKey website.

If you cannot remember your PennKey or password, or PennPortal fails to recognize it, visit the PennKey website.

Register for classes

  1. Before you can register for WPWP courses via PennPortal you will need to create your PennKey and password (see information below).
  2. Enter the PennPortal site, and log in via the red link at the upper right-hand side of the page.
  3. This will bring you to the Penn WebLogin screen where you must enter your PennKey and password. After logging in, you will be taken back to the main PennPortal screen.
  4. Go to the "Registration & academic info" box in the left navigation column.
  5. Click the "more" link.
  6. Select “Register for courses”
  7. To enroll in a course, choose the appropriate term (Fall, Spring, Summer I, Summer II)
  8. Select the course subject code, course number, and section number (e.g. ACCT 411-001). The section number dictates the day, time, and instructor for your course.
  9. After you make your course selection, click “Add.”
  10. All courses must be taken for a normal grade, NOT as pass/fail.

Obtain a PennCard

A PennCard is required to:

  • Enter Jon M. Huntsman Hall and all Wharton Buildings (especially after hours as you will be attending Wharton classes in the evenings)
  • Get your PennID number to establish a Wharton email account and access WebCafé
  • Enter University buildings, including libraries, gym, etc.

To get your PennCard, you must first submit your New Student Confirmation to the WPWP offices. Once you have submitted your New Student Confirmation, go to the PennCard ID Center at 3451 Walnut Street, Suite 150 Franklin Building. Your photo will be taken and the card will be given to you. You must bring photo identification with you. You may call the PennCard Center directly if you have questions 215.417.CARD ext. 2273. General Hours of operation are: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM.

View grades

  1. Log into PennPortal with your PennKey and Password
  2. Go to the "Registration & academic info" box in the left navigation column.
  3. Click the "more" link.
  4. Click on "View transcripts" to view your grades.
