Pentagon Okay with Defense Mergers outside Largest ContractorsFebruary 11, 2011

 

As U.S. Defense Department spending shrinks, the aerospace and defense industry will make adjustments to survive — primarily through consolidation.

Ashton Carter, the undersecretary of defense acquisition, technology and logistics, told Bloomberg Television that he would like the Defense Department (DoD) to be part of the conversation that guides the changes. But he noted that the Pentagon will not approve mergers between the top defense contractors, Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman and General Dynamics.
