Ryerson, PhD is the UPS Chair of Transportation and Professor of City and Regional Planning and Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. She is also a Senior Fellow at the Center for Injury Research and Prevention (CIRP) at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and the Research Director of the Mobility21 Transportation Research Center, a Department of Transportation (DOT) University Transportation Center. Dr. Ryerson develops new and practical analytical approaches to center injury prevention and equity into transportation planning methods. Her research has been published in injury prevention journals and methodological transportation journals, and has been the subject of numerous media reports in outlets as diverse as Bloomberg CityLab, Fast Company, The Hill, and Vogue Japan. Her research is supported by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Transportation, and other transportation agencies and research organizations. Dr. Ryerson serves as the Associate Dean for Research at the Weitzman School of Design, where she has grown the research portfolio by 120% in her first two years. Dr. Ryerson is a committed educator, dedicated to the advancement of women in transportation. She recruits and maintains a majority female research group from across Engineering, Arts & Sciences, and the Weitzman School of Design. Dr. Ryerson was named “Woman of the Year” by the Women’s Transportation Seminar-Philadelphia Chapter for her efforts.
