Offered twice a year, AMP is an immersive program that draws senior executives from multinational corporations and organizations. The program is designed to strengthen their readiness to succeed in the senior-most leadership roles of their enterprises. Those who successfully complete the rigorous five-week program join the community of Wharton alumni.
The new faculty chair for Wharton’s AMP will be Michael Useem, the William and Jacalyn Egan Professor of Management and director of Wharton’s Center for Leadership and Change Management. Capitalizing on Wharton’s core business expertise, Useem will be joined by several of the School’s most esteemed faculty in finance, leadership, management, marketing, and innovation who will bring their research and actionable insights into the classroom.
Jeff Klein, executive director of the Wharton Leadership Program, will serve as executive director for AMP. He says that Wharton’s AMP is designed to support the development of the next generation of global leaders. “These roles, whether in business, non-profits, or government, require a blend of business acumen and leadership and decision-making capabilities. The partnership between Wharton Executive Education and the Wharton Leadership Program will continue the strong success of AMP’s business acumen curriculum, and provide a laboratory for participants to think about leadership in new and broader ways.”
That “laboratory” is AMP’s experiential learning component, which is designed to challenge participants’ preconceived ideas and stretch their emotional and physical limits, while providing invaluable opportunities to develop and practice new capabilities. In multiple sessions, both inside and outside of the classroom, participants will work with leadership development experts, including one of Chile’s most accomplished mountaineers who has led several successful expeditions to the Himalayas and Antarctica; a consultant to NASA who works with International Space Station astronauts on the dynamics of teamwork and leadership on extended space expeditions; and the former director of Leadership Programs at the United States Military Academy at West Point who served as a key architect of West Point’s Leader Development System.
Throughout Wharton’s AMP, executive coaches will observe and offer personalized feedback to deepen learning. There will also be opportunities to network with a slate of current CEOs, who will lead some sessions in the program, as well as be introduced to some Wharton alumni. The executive coaching and high-level mentoring will be encouraged and facilitated beyond the five-week program.

The highly selective Advanced Management Program is offered twice a year at Wharton’s Philadelphia campus and is limited to sixty executives. In 2015, the program will be offered May 31 to July 3, and Sept. 27 to Oct. 30.
