Aerospace & Defense

Overview

Expanding a company internationally while managing complex security regulations. Scenario planning for a world that could become very different overnight, depending on who wins a war or an election. These are only two of the various types of challenges that Wharton Executive Education might explore in a learning and development partnership with an aerospace and defense firm like yours.

Expertise

To confront the changing nature of the aerospace and defense marketplace, many leading defense companies are aggressively focused on becoming more agile by driving transformational enterprise-wide change. At Wharton Executive Education, we help A&D firms like yours to grow by developing learning solutions linked to your company’s strategic business goals and competency models. For example, if you are an intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) firm looking to manage the uncertainty of sequestration, we might collaborate around a learning program that helps your top talent become more nimble in order to focus less on contracts and more on commercialization. From monetizing new technologies to shifting corporate culture, we help A&D firms take advantage of their strong resources and core competencies.

Examples of topic areas include:

  • Scenario Planning
  • Integration of Strategy and Finance
  • Corporate Value Creation
  • Strategy Execution
  • Translating Military or Engineering Leadership Skills into Corporate Success
  • Leading and Changing Corporate Culture
  • Collaborating Across Organizational Silos

Tools & Solutions

We have partnered with a range of world-class aerospace and defense firms to create transformative executive education experiences. Some examples of tools and solutions we have used in custom education engagements include:

Leadership Development Solution

Wharton Executive Education partnered with ITT Exelis, a diversified top-tier global aerospace, defense and information solutions company, to create a leadership development program designed to strengthen the company’s leadership pipeline. The residential program, which was led by Wharton faculty, featured business acumen and leadership content explicitly linked to Exelis’ core competencies. The program included a business simulation, experiential sessions, incorporation of individual coaching sessions into the larger program, and integration of Exelis' leaders in teaching roles. Enterprise-wide action learning projects were C-suite sponsored and coached by Wharton faculty. Participants left the program with actionable plans designed to improve efficiency and directly affect Exelis’ bottom line.
